"The Remarkable Soul of a Woman," Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Deseret Book, $13.99, 50 pages
It's no secret that men and women are a bit different, but President Dieter F. Uchtdorf points out an obvious example in the beginning of his recent book "The Remarkable Soul of a Woman." His wife, Harriet, makes incredible meals but will apologize over tiny details — "a touch too much ginger," or it needs "an additional bay leaf." Meanwhile President Uchtdorf, the second counselor in the First Presidency, feels "pretty heroic" when he cooks fried eggs sunny-side up with knusperchen (twice toasted bread slices).
But the point is that sometimes women are just too hard on themselves and look at what is lacking. In this 50-page book, he points out ways women should feel valued, encouraged and uplifted.
So when you need a little lifting or that frustrating day has left you at your wit's end, then find a spot to hide with this little book. It only takes a few minutes to read and can leave you feeling more energized about being a woman.
It's a book that's tiny enough to slip into a bag, briefcase or a purse but large enough to not get lost in there.
(And it may sound familiar, as it is taken from President Uchtdorf's 2008 remarks at the General Relief Society meeting titled "Happiness, Your Heritage." And it's always a good idea to review those talks, right?)
It's not a bad idea to take one of your favorite treats (one of mine is a chocolate mint truffle) along while you read it, as President Uchtdorf's words are like giving your soul a little treat.
