GUADALAJARA, Mexico — A Canadian edged his American rival in the 10-kilometer swim through the waters of the Pacific Ocean at the Pan American Games.

Richard Weinberger won the gold medal Saturday in 1 hour, 57 minutes, 31 seconds — only 0.3 seconds ahead of Arthur Frayler. Guillermo Bertola of Argentina took bronze in 1:57:33.9.

Officials confirmed the finish by video replay.

In the women's race, Cecilia Biagioli of Argentina earned gold in 2:04:11.5. Poliana Okimoto of Brazil won the silver and Christine Jennings of the United States earned bronze.
