PROVO — A 4th District Court judge on Monday rejected the claim of Shannon Price that she is entitled to the estate of her ex-husband, actor Gary Coleman.
Price testified that after her divorce from Coleman in 2008, the two continued living together and presented themselves as a married couple. She argued she was entitled to Coleman's estate under the terms of a non-ceremonial marriage statute.
But Judge James Taylor ultimately decided that there was insufficient evidence that Price and Coleman had remained a couple and mutually assumed marital rights, duties and obligations.
"They both generally resided in the home belonging to Mr. Coleman from August 2008 until he died," Taylor wrote in his decision. "But that living arrangement did not take on the appearance of a marital relationship as Ms. Price moved in and out on numerous occasions, either out of anger between them or to allow her to pursue another man."
Price and Coleman met in 2005 on the set of the movie "Church Ball." They were married in 2007 and divorced less than one year later.
Coleman died in 2010 at the age of 42 after suffering a head injury. He was best known for his role in the television program "Diff'rent Strokes."
