WEST VALLEY CITY — The city will honor a historic figure by naming a section of road for him.
The portion of 2320 South from 1000 West to Redwood Road will be renamed Cesar Chavez Drive in a dedication ceremony Thursday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Union Labor Center, 2261 S. Redwood Road.
Mayor Pro Tem Corey Rushton, State Sens. Karen Mayne and Luz Robles, state Rep. Angela Romero and La Raza President Archie Archuleta will give brief remarks.
West Valley City officials, at the request of Utah AFL-CIO, are naming the street after the founder of United Farm Workers to celebrate the rich cultural diversity and agricultural heritage of the area.
"Cesar Chavez exemplified the West Valley City motto of Unity, Pride, and Progress,” Rushton said. “The new street designation will be a reminder of the city's rich heritage and commitment to a promising future."
The stretch of road honoring Chavez will officially remain 2320 South, with “Cesar Chavez Drive” added as a commemorative name.
