SOUTH JORDAN — With the appeal of a heavyweight prize fight, the only thing missing is the bright lights of MGM Grand and Michael Buffer.
Bingham, widely considered the best program in the state, announced a two-year agreement with Bishop Gorman, widely considered the best program in Nevada. The contract features a home-and-away format with the Miners traveling to Nevada on Sept. 5 next season before hosting the Gaels in 2015.
Bishop Gorman returns several starters, including the No. 1 tight end in the country for the Class of 2015, Alize Jones, who is rated a five-star prospect and maintains a verbal commitment with UCLA. Since the 2006 season, the Gaels are 102-12 with six state championships, including five-straight from 2009-13.
The Miners have enjoyed similar success since the 2006 season with four state titles and a 95-12 overall record. Bingham returns quarterback Kyle Gearig, who accounted for 2,606 total yards and 41 touchdowns, along with teammates Kade Cloward, Daniel Langi and Dominieke Jones, who contributed extensively on arguably the best defensive unit in the state.
After capping the 2013 season with an undefeated state championship, Bingham was ranked No. 15 in the USA Today final poll and No. 19 in MaxPreps. Bishop Gorman, which finished 13-2, was ranked No. 30 by USA Today and No. 66 by MaxPreps.
