In this picture book, 6-year-old Alice is excited for Christmas. She wants Papa, her grandfather, to tell her a story. She’s already heard several Christmas ones. As they walk in the snow, build a snowman and make Christmas treats, Papa shares a story about a book that helped save Christmas for him.
When he was a much younger man, his family received a book with gold lettering on it for Christmas that helped their family be happier. When Papa was drafted to fight in a war, he was given their copy of the book.
As Papa was fighting in the war, it was the book that helped him feel close to his family and feel comfort, especially on a Christmas Eve when he was alone. That book was the Book of Mormon.
Emma Rae Parker's “Papa’s Book of Mormon Christmas” is a unique story that shares about the Book of Mormon and how it can be a comfort in tough times. It would have been nice to know if it was based on a true story.
Alexa Terry Hanson’s illustrations help share both the festive season and the stories from the Book of Mormon.
