PROVO — News of Bronco Mendenhall accepting the head coaching position at the University of Virginia came as a shock Friday, leaving BYU searching from a new coach to lead the Cougar program.

Mendenhall has led BYU to a 99-42 record during his head coaching tenure at the Provo school, including a 4-2 record in bowl games.
