Utah basketball forward Brekkott Chapman has been invited to Team USA's training camp for a potential spot on its roster as it prepares to participate in the U19 World Championship, which begins later this month in Greece.
Chapman is one of 24 to receive and invite and just one of 10 that played college hoops last season, according to a news release issued by Team USA. The team is coached by Syracuse's Jim Boeheim, with Arizona's Sean Miller, Dayton's Archie Miller and Providence's Ed Cooley serving as assistants.
The camp will begin June 12 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with finalists named by June 15 and a final team of 12 players before opening competition on June 27 against Iran in Heraklion, Greece. Croatia and Egypt are also in the team's preliminary round group.
The next stage of play will begin July 1 in a round of 16 format. The finals are set for July 5.
Chapman, who also starred at Roy High School, averaged 5.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 35 games as a freshman for the Utes this past season. He also shot 48 percent from the floor. UCLA's Thomas Welsh is the only other Pac-12 player with college experience to receive an invite.
