HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — The body of a missing 23-year-old cliff diver was found at Causey Reservoir on Saturday.

The man, identified as Matt Heffernan, jumped off a cliff for a fifth time and attempted a double backflip Friday at about 8 p.m., said Lt. Brandon Toll of the Weber County Sheriff's Office. Heffernan landed face first on the water and didn't come back up, he said.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office received a call from a kayaker who paddled about a third of a mile for cell phone service after he saw Heffernan's friends jump in after him, Toll said.

The sheriff's office began a search and rescue, but had to stop at 11 p.m. when it became too dark for divers to search, Toll said. The search resumed at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Divers found Heffernan's body under about 50 feet of water at 11 a.m.

Heffernan, from Cleveland, Ohio, was attending the University of Utah.
