Editor's note: In anticipation of the 121st college football season in Utah, DeseretNews.com writer Jay Yeomans is ranking the 50 greatest Division I college football players of all time from the state of Utah. We're counting down the 50 days until Sept. 1 when Southern Utah at Utah and Weber State at Utah State kick off at 6 p.m. Rankings are based on what the player did during his college career.

40. Bill Staley, Utah State, defensive line (1965-67)

Staley was a force on the defensive line during his time in Logan. He was a great tackler who was always ready to make a big play. His most impressive year was as a senior in 1967 when he helped the Aggies to a 7-2-1 record while leading the team with 132 tackles. For his play that season, he was named a first-team All-American by Time magazine, The Sporting News and Central Press.

For his outstanding career, he was inducted in the Utah State Hall of Fame in 1995.
