SALT LAKE CITY — “Avengers: Endgame” directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed “13 Reasons Why” star Katherine Langford’s role for the Marvel film was cut from the movie before it hit theaters.
Langford played Tony Stark/Iron Man’s (Robert Downey Jr.) daughter, Morgan Stark, according to Anthony and Joe Russo, who spoke on MTV’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.
Langford would have played a teenage version of Morgan Stark (who was played by Lexi Rabe) in the film, according to SlashFilm.
- “There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station,” Joe Russo said on the podcast.
For those who forget, Thanos (Josh Brolin) visited a weird in-between realm after the snap in “Infinity War” where he met the younger version of his daughter, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who died when he threw her off a cliff for the Soul stone.
The Russos said Langford’s appearance in the way station only confused test audiences.
- “What we realized about it was, we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter,” Anthony Russo said. “So it wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level.”
- “The intention was that his future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant,” Joe Russo added. “But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”
Theories: Popular fan theories suggested Langford would play an older version of Cassie Lang, the daughter of Ant-Man/Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), in “Avengers: Endgame.” Cassie eventually becomes the character Stature in the Marvel comics.
Other theories suggested she would be Kate Bishop, who took on the Hawkeye mantle.
