The upcoming Disney+ series “Hawkeye” will have a direct connection to an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
“Hawkeye” is a new Marvel series centered around Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), who have to work together to make sure Barton can get home for Christmas.
- The show will also introduce Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), a character from Marvel Comics who goes by the superhero moniker Echo.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said “Hawkeye” will directly connect with the “Echo” series. He said Lopez will go from the end of this “Hawkeye” series into the “Echo” series.
- Feige said Cox “is amazing” as Lopez. He said he can’t wait for the audience to discover Lopez over the course of “Hawkeye” and in her own series down the road.

“Hawkeye” director Rhys Thomas said Cox read for the role. She impressed the staff immediately with her performance, which made the hiring easy.
- Echo is a deaf Native American superhero who “has the ability to perfectly copy another person’s movements or fighting style, making her a formidable opponent in battle,” according to Variety.
