The upcoming Disney+ Marvel Studios show “Hawkeye” was born from a previous Marvel Cinematic Universe film, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
Feige said Tuesday at the show’s global press conference, which I attended, that he thought of the “Hawkeye” spinoff show after “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
- “There are moments within all of Jeremy’s (Renner) appearances where you see this reluctant mentor under the surface,” Feige said. “One of my favorite scenes in all of our films is this scene with Clint and Wanda in Sokovia, when he basically says, ‘You go out that door, you’re an Avenger’ and motivates her to to to join the fight. And that was the kernel of how we could connect our MCU incarnation of Clint Barton into the Matt Fraction storyline and the relationship with Kate Bishop.”
Per Gizmodo, the “Age of Ultron” moments were seeds that showed what a “Hawkeye” spinoff could look like.

Renner, who plays Hawkeye, said at the same press conference that he’d like to see Wanda Maximoff and Kate Bishop team up in a future show since they were both mentored by Clint.
- “What if, right?” Renner said, a clear reference to Marvel’s “What If...?” series.
