The post-credits scene of “Eternals” had a surprising twist that signals a major change is coming for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What happens in the post-credits scene?

After the credits roll, we see Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington) opening a box that contains the Ebony Blade, a weapon used by the comic book character Black Knight in the Marvel Comics. Whitman is the Black Knight in the comic book storyline.

  • Whispers fill the air when Whitman opens the box and looks at the sword, which appears to have a black force on it.
  • Then, a voice utters, “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?”

‘Eternals’ post-credits scene: Who is the voice at the end?

Director Chloé Zhao told Fandom that the voice at the end is Mahershala Ali. This is a huge deal because Ali is set to play the superhero Blade in an upcoming Marvel movie, Polygon reports.

  • Blade is a half-human and half-vampire who hunts down zombies. He wears sunglasses during the day since he’s a vampire, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

Do Blade and Black Knight meet in the comics?

  • In the Marvel comics, the two characters never had any major storylines together. But they both represent night-themed characters, along with Moon Knight, who is also coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through a Disney+ series. Blade’s biggest allies were Captain BritainDoctor StrangeLuke Cage and Spider-Man.
