Special Counsel Robert Hur interviewed President Joe Biden on Sunday and Monday regarding his dealings with classified documents.
“The voluntary interview was conducted at the White House over two days, Sunday and Monday, and concluded Monday,” White House spokesperson Ian Sams said in a statement, per NPR. “We would refer other questions to the Justice Department at this time.”
The interviews were had as Biden faced the ongoing events in the Middle East with the Hamas militants crisis in Israel. According to The New York Times, the interviews were scheduled in advance.
Attorney General Merrick B. Garland appointed Hur to investigate Biden’s handling of classified documents after Biden’s attorneys discovered multiple classified documents, among other papers, at his home in Delaware and at a Washington, D.C., office.
Sams added, “As we have said from the beginning, the President and the White House are cooperating with this investigation, and as it has been appropriate, we have provided relevant updates publicly, being as transparent as we can consistent with protecting and preserving the integrity of the investigation,” per Axios.
Biden’s inquiry is not the only special counsel investigation going on regarding the mishandling of classified documents — former President Donald Trump is also being investigated.
“In this case, Trump faces 40 charges alleging he illegally kept classified documents after he left the White House. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges,” the Deseret News previously reported.
