Kanye West is bringing his “Sunday Service” spiritual event to Salt Lake City on Saturday — the first day of general conference.
The Gateway confirmed to the Deseret News that West’s event was happening after rumors sparked up on Twitter.
The Gateway told the Deseret News the “Sunday Service” event features West and The Sunday Service Collective and kicks off at noon at The Gateway Plaza. The event is free and open to the public.
The city received a permit request for Salt Lake City to host West’s “Sunday Service” Saturday, according to Matthew Rojas, spokesman for Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski.
Rojas said the city expects 70,000 downtown tomorrow, so he suggests using public transportation.
Rojas said the city found out about West’s service plan on Friday.
Biskupski similarly asked the city to use public transportation this weekend.
“.@DowntownSLC is going to be busy tomorrow morning & afternoon with General Conference, the March to End Child Abuse (City Hall to Capitol), and a potentially large event at the Gateway. Please use @RideUTA and avoid areas around these events.”
West previously hosted a “Sunday Service” event in Cody, Wyoming, where West owns a home.
