Atari — one of the most iconic video game companies in the world — will be opening video game-themed hotels in the next few years, the company announced Monday.
- Atari partnered with GSD Group, a strategy agency, to receive the rights to build these Atari Hotels in the U.S.
- The company will break ground at a location in Phoenix, Arizona, in mid-2020, according to a release.
What they’re like: The Atari Hotels will have a hotel and entertainment venue with an immersive experience.
- The hotels will have AR and VR components.
- Some of the hotels will have studios and venues to host esports events.

What they’re saving: A number of partners responded to the news.
Fred Chesnais, CEO of Atari, said in a statement: “We are thrilled to partner with GSD Group and True North Studio to build the first-ever Atari branded hotels across the United States. Together we’ll build a space that will be much more than just a place to stay. Atari is an iconic global brand that resonates with people of all ages, countries, cultures and ethnic backgrounds and we cannot wait for our fans and their families to enjoy this new hotel concept.”
Napoleon Smith III, producer of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot: “When creating this brand-new hotel concept, we knew that Atari would be the perfect way to give guests the ‘nostalgic and retro meets modern’ look and feel we were going for. Let’s face it, how cool will it be to stay inside an Atari?!”

Locations: The first hotel will be in Phoenix. Additional hotels will open in the following cities:

- Denver
- Chicago
- Austin
- Seattle
- San Francisco
- San Jose
