Sony has decided to pull the new video game Cyberpunk 2077 from its PlayStation Store after major backlash from fans.
What’s going on?
Sony recently removed Cyberpunk 2077 from its PlayStation Store, saying it will offer refunds to gamers who bought digital copies of the game.
- Sony said that it “strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction” with its games, and that Cyberpunk no longer met that standard.
The decision comes after the game received criticism for having multiple bugs and performance issues at launch time, according to CNBC.
- The game’s graphics requirements led to issues on older consoles like PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The game would often freeze, for example. And in-game textures would take too long to load.
“It’s not an easy call, but they have made the right move,” Steve Bailey, principal analyst for games at tech research firm Omdia, told CNBC. “This title has been removed out of fear of not just consumers upset with a game’s quality, but potential damage to the console brand.”
Refunds on the way
Sony said it “will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store.”
- “Once we have confirmed that you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store, we will begin processing your refund. Please note that completion of the refund may vary based on your payment method and financial institution.”
