Nintendo Switch consoles remain hard to find during the coronavirus pandemic, as multiple retailers report not having any in stock.
What’s happening:
- The Nintendo Switch console remains “out of stock” at massive retail chains like Best Buy, GameStop and Target, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s even hard to find one on Amazon, the online retailer.
- A company spokesperson told THR: “Nintendo Switch hardware is selling out at various retail locations in the U.S., but more systems are on the way. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Why now?
- Nintendo did not clarify to THR why these consoles aren’t in stock.
- As I wrote before, Nintendo told customers back in February there might be delay in production and shipments because of the coronavirus .
- Nintendo: “We will work hard to deliver the product as soon as possible, while keeping an eye on the effects of the new coronavirus infection, and we look forward to your understanding.”
- Nintendo (via Engadget): “We can confirm that the manufacturing of some Nintendo products for the Japanese market has been delayed due to the impact of 2019-nCoV coronavirus outbreak,” the company said in a statement to Engadget. “Nintendo does not anticipate a significant impact on our broader global supply chain for systems and accessories at this time, and product sales in North America and Europe, including pre-orders, are not affected. We would like to express our concern and support for all those affected by the coronavirus during this challenging time.”
Some additional context:
- Nintendo recently released “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” a family-friendly game that emphasizes community and bonding, which is something we’re lacking in the age of the coronavirus due to social distancing.
Nintendo Switch Lite is still an option
- Don’t worry if you can’t find a Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch Lite is more widely available right now and it costs only $199.99, according to ComicBook.com.
