Spotify and DC Comics inked a new deal that will create new narrative shows for superheroes like Batman and villains like Harley Quinn, according to Variety.
What’s going on?
- Spotify and DC Comics announced a new licensing deal that gives Spotify exclusive access to a number of podcasts centered around Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and the Joker, according to Variety.
- Spotify can “can produce, market, distribute, and sell ads against podcasts built around DC Comics” properties, The Verge reports.
- WarnerMedia is likely earning money off the licensing deal and ads, according to The Verge.
Other comic book deals
- Marvel signed an audio deal with Pandora. Scripted and no-scripted shows from Marvel will appear on SiriusXM properties, which includes Pandora.
- The deal added 10-episode scripted series based around characters like Wolverine, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Star-Lord, along with a crossover series between the characters, according to Marvel.
Spotify keeps signing deals
- Spotify has been signing a slew of exclusive deals as of late, including one for Joe Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Kim Kardashian West for a criminal justice reform podcast, a slate of podcasts from former President Barack Obama and wife Michelle’s production company, and the decision to buy The Ringer and its podcast network.
