After it was originally supposed to air back in June, “Big Brother” will return to TV screens for its 22nd season on Aug. 5 with an all-star cast and new safety protocols in place amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Big Brother” is a reality television competition where people try to live and stay in a house longer than others, hoping to capture a top prize.
What to expect:
- According to CBS, fans can expect to watch a two-hour live move-in premiere event on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 9 p.m ET.
- Episodes will follow their normal schedule airing Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 ET with the live eviction show being on Thursdays
- This will be the second all-star edition of the show with the original being in 2006.
- The houseguests will be comprised of previous winners, finalists, memorable personalities and legends. The identities will be named closer to the premier, according to CBS.
Safety protocols:
- Before production begin, all houseguests will be subject to a quarantine period.
- According to Entertainment Weekly, CBS said in a statement, “All staff and crew members will be tested prior to commencing work on a regular basis, as well as screened daily for symptoms. They’ll be required to wear PPE and will work in pods to enhance social distancing. In addition, a COVID-19 compliance officer will be on staff to monitor and enforce all health and safety COVID-19 protocols.”
- Crew and houseguests will have no interaction with each other once inside and all supplies delivered to the house will be disinfected.
- During the live eviction on Thursdays there will be no studio audience.
Bigger picture:
- According to USA Today, reality shows will be returning sooner than scripted television with “Big Brother” being one of the first to announce its return to TV. For example, another CBS reality show, “Love Island” has begun preproduction in Las Vegas.
