“Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin has endorsed a move that would remove President Donald Trump’s cameo from “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
What happened?
Someone tweeted at Culkin this week that they wanted to “petition to digitally replace” President Trump in “Home Alone 2” with the 40-year-old Culkin.
- Culkin replied, “Sold.”
Culkin then responded to another tweet that showed an edited version of the “Home Alone 2” scene where Trump was completely removed and replaced with a blank space.
Context
Trump has a brief appearance in the sequel that you’ll miss if you blink. When Kevin McCallister arrives at the Plaza Hotel, he asks Trump for directions. Trump instructs him to go “down the hall and to the left” before walking away with a confused face.
- Trump owned the Plaza Hotel from 1988 to 1995, according to People magazine.
However ...
“Home Alone 2” director Chris Columbus previously said that Trump’s appearance in the film was popular, according to The Guardian.
- “When we screened it for the first time the oddest thing happened — people cheered when Trump showed up on screen. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.”
