The 2021 Grammys Awards, originally scheduled for Jan. 31, have been postponed due to concerns of the raging novel coronavirus, according to multiple reports.
- Organizers did not set a new date for the annual award show.
- However, sources told Rolling Stone that organizers are targeting March as a potential date for the show.
The Grammys had planned for a limited show for 2021 that would have only included presenters and performers. It was set to be held at the Staples Center. “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah would have led out the event, according to USA Today.
Beyonce led the way with nine nominations. Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Roddy Ricch had six nominations, too.
Key quote:
- “We’re going to be doing as much as we can within reason and continue to be safe,” Harvey Mason Jr., interim CEO/president of the Recording Academy, told USA Today in November. “We’re really being respectful of what the medical professionals and political leaders are telling us, as far as what we can and cannot do.” An audience was unlikely, he said, but live performances and awards-receiving portions of the show were planned.

The Grammys would have been held in Hollywood, which sits inside of Los Angeles County. The county has become the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in recent weeks, as I’ve written about for the Deseret News.
