Following Rafael Nadal’s final season in the sport, Netflix and Skydance have announced a new docuseries about the tennis legend’s life and career.
“The docuseries will spotlight Nadal’s sterling career, as well as his life off-the-court, showcasing never-before-seen material from Nadal’s personal archive and featuring landmark access with the tennis star, his family and his close circle of coaches and advisors,” per Netflix.
The series following Nadal will be directed by Zach Heinzerling, whose previous work includes “Cutie and the Boxer,” ”McCartney 3, 2, 1″ and “Stolen Youth: Inside The Cult at Sarah Lawrence.”
So far, the docuseries is untitled and does not yet have a proposed air date, per The Athletic.
“Everyone will be able to see how my life has been during my tennis career and particularly in this vey [sic] last year I had. It will also show how my life and my tennis career developed through the years,” Nadal said, per Deadline.

Who is Rafael Nadal?
Nadal, who is from Spain, started playing tennis when he was 3 and turned pro at 15 years old, per Netflix.
He rose to prominence in the early 2000s, becoming part of the “big three” alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, each of them dominating men’s tennis for years.
In his career, Nadal won 22 Grand Slam men’s singles titles and is one of three men to win all four majors and an Olympic gold medal, per Deadline.
He is best known for his consistent victories at the French Open. He was even dubbed the “King of Clay” because of his 14 wins at the tournament.
After an injury caused him to sit out for most of the 2023 season, he returned for one last season of competitive play in 2024, according to The Athletic.
According to ESPN, Nadal officially announced his retirement in November.

What other tennis documentaries are there?
Nadal’s new series is just another in a long line of tennis documentaries that have been released or announced in the past few years.
Netflix’s “Break Point” series lasted two seasons and followed a variety of different players through the ATP and WTA tours. It was cancelled this year, per The Athletic.
The streaming giant is also releasing a docuseries on Carlos Alcaraz, a 21-year-old Spanish tennis player who was Nadal’s doubles partner for the 2024 Olympics, called “My Way” in 2025, per Netflix.
According to The Athletic, in 2021 four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka released a series with Netflix titled “Naomi Osaka”.
Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer also released his own documentary this year, which followed the last days of his career.
Federer’s documentary was titled “Federer: Twelve Final Days”, according to The Athletic.
