As the Southern California fires continue to displace thousands of individuals and families, there is a large call for help in the relief effort.
On Monday, as the Deseret News previously reported that the fires have burned over 62 square miles and over 12,300 structures that have been destroyed.
So what relief efforts have been done to help all those that have been affected? Many celebrities and companies have made efforts to help first responders and victims of the fires.
What celebrities are helping in the relief efforts?
Here is a list of some of the celebrities and their efforts to help victims, first responders and other organizations.
- Beyonce’s foundation BeyGOOD posted on Instagram that it will be donating $2.5 million to help those who have lost their homes.
- Also on Instagram, Eva Longoria said that she will match donations up to $50,000 to the This is About Humanity organization in their efforts to “support frontline essential workers, farm workers, day laborers, and families impacted by these wildfires.”
- Despite being personally affected by the fires, Jamie Lee Curtis posted on Instagram that she pledges to donate $1 million to start a “fund of support” and is in contact with city and state leaders to know how the funds can make “the most impact.”
- Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have been visiting with first responders and victims of the fires, as reported by USA Today. The couple has also donated clothing, children’s items and other essentials to relief efforts.
- Jennifer Garner has been working with nonprofit organization World Central Kitchen as it supplies meals to firefighters and evacuees, reported People.
- Paris Hilton — after losing her Malibu beach house — posted on Instagram that she would be launching an emergency fund through her nonprofit, 11:11 Media Impact, to specifically help displaced families.
Other stars aiding in the relief effort include: Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, Bethenny Frankel, Mark Zuckerberg and Kylie Jenner, per Forbes.
What companies are helping in the relief efforts?
Here are some of the companies and their efforts to help those being affected by the fire, as reported by Forbes.
- Amazon has pledged $10 million to local and national disaster response groups including the Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, Habitat for Los Angeles Wildfire Fund, Los Angeles Fire Department foundation and Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Small Business Relief/Recovery Fund. They have also provided advertisement space for nonprofit organizations on Prime Video.
- The Los Angeles-based company Sketchers has pledged $1 million to relief efforts.
- Verizon has waived call, text and data charges to customers in hard hit areas. They will also donate $500,000 each to American Red Cross and Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
- Walmart has said that it will donate $2.5 million worth of cash, food, water and other essentials.
- Disney has pledged to donate $15 million to those affected by the fires, as well as sending funds to various organizations. Additional resources will also be offered to any affected employee.
- Paramount donated $1 million to American Red Cross, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, Direct Relief and other organizations.
- The Chargers and Rams are selling team gear to benefit the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation along with 50% of the Rams 50/50 raffle from Monday’s game. The NFL is donating $5 million to relief efforts as well.
- Some other companies aiding in relief efforts include: Apple, Kroger, Fox Corps., FanDuel and Flutter Entertainment.
