“The Chosen” released a third clip previewing the upcoming fifth season of the series.
In a new four-minute clip from “The Chosen” Season 5, titled “Confrontation Over Jesus,” the Sanhedrin debate over how to resolve Jesus’ growing influence.
“The thing we can both soberly admit, the attitudes of our congregations are no longer directed by us,” the high priest over the Sanhedrim began their council, as seen in the preview clip.
“We have a common problem, Jesus the Nazarene operates entirely outside our jurisdiction. Dismissive of tradition and precedent, he pushes the peoples' attitudes towards an uncharted realm of thought.”
One member of the Sanhedrin, Shmuel, becomes outspoken at the debate and believes he has the answer to their problem.
“Tragically, Jesus has now forced us into a situation where to protect our people we must consider drastic measures,” Shmuel says before the Sanhedrim.
“If the people are following a man falsely claiming he raised Lazarus from death, we make sure he’s dead.”
What to expect from ‘The Chosen’ Season 5
The fifth season of “The Chosen” will pick up right where the fourth season of the series left off, Dallas Jenkins told Variety.
“It’s Holy Week, so Season 4 ends with the triumphal entry. Season 5 picks up where it left off, and Season 6 is going to be the crucifixion, so we essentially cover five days,” Jenkins told the outlet. “We cover the most famous week in history.”
Season 5 will feature “a lot of truth bombs, a lot of mic-drop moments” from Jesus, Jenkins added.
“This is actually going to be a season that is in some ways kind of cool and kind of fun, even though (the viewers) know what’s coming and it’s definitely got a lot of weight over it. But we just couldn’t have three seasons in a row with nothing but pain and loss and misery.”
The fifth season of the series will also be more emotional than previous ones.
“I would say Season 4 is our most emotional season by far. Season 5 is more, and that’s definitely come out in filming,” Jenkins previously told the Deseret News.
A logline for the upcoming season reads: “The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But — instead of confronting Rome — he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last,” per “The Chosen” site.
