Indiana Fever guard and University of Iowa alumna Caitlin Clark is expanding her portfolio into storytelling.
While other authors have published children’s books about the WNBA star, Clark is now writing her own book for young readers: “EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams.”
Before the 24-year-old WNBA star was credited with elevating the profile of women’s basketball, and shattering collegiate records, she was just a kid with big dreams.
Clark’s book draws inspiration from a quote that motivated her growing up: “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the EXTRA,” according to People.
The book offers a glimpse into Clark’s life off the court, featuring the friends, family and teammates who supported her journey to basketball stardom, ESPN reported.
The Indiana Fever guard shows how these relationships make a person “EXTRAordinary,” emphasizing that her success on the court is rooted in her community off of it.
“If we treasure the moments with them,” the book’s synopsis reads, “our lives, too, will be wonderfully EXTRA.”
Publisher Penguin Random House stated that Clark also shares messages about the foundation of her success: “that love and joy matter most. Because what’s truly important in life — what deserves our EXTRA time and EXTRA attention — are the people surrounding us.”
Penguin Random House announced Tuesday that “EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams” will be released on Nov. 3.
“Basketball has given me so many incredible opportunities, but what has always meant the most to me are the people who’ve supported me along the way,” Clark said in a statement. “I hope this book reminds kids that they’re never alone in chasing their dreams and that giving a little extra to the people and moments is what makes them EXTRAordinary.”
The book is illustrated by Adriana Predoi, who has also illustrated “Let’s Go Fishing!” and “Planted with Love.”
