Kate, Princess of Wales, comforted and congratulated a young mother celebrating the completion of her chemotherapy treatment.
More than a year after announcing that her cancer is in remission, Kate visited patients at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust on Thursday in Manchester, England, continuing her efforts to support people affected by cancer at one of the United Kingdom’s leading cancer treatment centers.
In a heartfelt moment, Kate stood beside Claire Lorente, a 30-year-old mother, as she rang the bell marking the end of her cancer treatment, surrounded by family members and hospital staff.
She told Lorente she had “done brilliantly,” before adding, “Well done, you. Please, don’t worry. What a journey...what an amazing day”
Lorente became overwhelmed with emotion as Kate asked, “It’s been a tough one?”
“It’s been hard,” Lorente said in a tearful reply.
Kate continued comforting Lorente, embracing her partner and telling him it is “just as hard for the family and loved ones,” adding, “I know how hard it was for the children and my parents. You go through it with them.”
She also embraced Lorente’s young child, saying, “What an amazing thing. Isn’t mummy brave?”
Reflecting on her visit to The Christie, Kate called it “such a moving” experience.
“Meeting patients, families and staff was a powerful reminder that healing is about so much more than treatment alone,” she added. “A cancer diagnosis affects every part of life, in mind, body and the deeper part of ourselves. The way we process fear, uncertainty and change is deeply personal”
The Christie treats more than 60,000 patients every year, and is known for offering a range of complementary holistic therapy options, including aromatherapy, reflexology, acupuncture, art class, a chaplaincy and and access to a tranquil well-being garden.
In addition to interacting with patients, Kate visited the hospital to highlight the importance of holistic care in cancer treatment. She attended an art session with patients, toured the wellbeing garden and met with members of staff.
Kate praised the hospital for its commitment to holistic care and the “profound impact it can have on quality of life.”
She added, “These services empower patients to play an active role in their recovery and wellbeing, reminding us that care should always be centered on the whole person,”
How is Princess Kate doing?
Kate confirmed in January 2025 that her cancer had gone into remission, noting that her focus was still on making a full recovery and that she would ease back into her public duties.
“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery,” Kate wrote in a statement shared on X at the time. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.”
“I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
It has been more than two years since Kate underwent a “planned abdominal surgery,” which led to doctors detecting and diagnosing her cancer.
In the aftermath of her diagnosis, Kate kept a minimal public profile and is gradually returning to royal duties.
Last month, Kate traveled to Italy in her her first overseas engagement since revealing her cancer diagnosis in 2024 — marking a significant step in her recovery.
