Gwen Stefani is sharing her Christian faith with her fans during the holiday season.
The pop singer and judge for “The Voice” announced earlier this month that she’s partnering with the Catholic prayer app Hallow on a prayer and music series.
Stefani contributed a song called “Christmas Eve” to the series, as well as a reflection on the song’s spiritual significance.
“The Christmas season has always been my favorite time of the year. It’s the season that we get to celebrate the birth of our Lord,” Stefani, who grew up Catholic, said in the video she shared on Instagram. “Download Hallow and join me in praying every day.”
Gwen Stefani’s religion
Stefani’s announcement about the prayer app caught some of her fans off guard.
The comments section of her post features a mix of praise for the singer’s willingness to share her faith and concern that she’s been body-snatched.
“Who is this and what have you done with the real Gwen?” one Instagram user wrote.
Confused fans may not realize that Stefani and her loved ones have talked about her Christian faith many times before.
Just last year, she told People magazine that prayer helps her find balance while managing a busy schedule.
“For me the only way that I’ve gotten this far is with my spiritual faith and being able to take time out to pray. You see the miracles, and that’s inspiration and fuel to keep it going,” Stefani said about her religion.
In 2019, Stefani’s then-boyfriend Blake Shelton — Stefani and Shelton got married in 2021 — credited the former “No Doubt” singer with helping him deepen his own faith.
“I believe in God now more than I ever have in my life,” Shelton told The Tennesseean five years ago. “The biggest part of that is just how (Gwen) came into my life and now our relationship. It’s just too weird. If you take God out of it, it doesn’t make sense. If you put God into it, everything that’s happened with us makes sense.”
Shelton noted in the 2019 interview that Stefani convinced him to begin attending church regularly.
Hallow app
Stefani isn’t the only star partnering with Hallow on its “Pray 25″ series this December.
Singers Lauren Daigle, Matt Maher and Ben Rector also contributed songs, and the cast of “The Chosen” recorded themselves reading Bible stories, according to the Hallow website.
Actor Kevin James, reality star Bear Grylls and Christian speaker and author Francis Chan are also involved in the project.
