I do not understand the fascination with Evan McMullin. Since 2016, numerous glowing articles regarding Mr. McMullin have appeared in the pages of the Deseret News, with the last one appearing on April 7 (“Evan McMullin is back, and he’s ready to remake American politics”).

In my opinion, Mr. McMullin ran for president in 2016 to get Hillary Clinton elected. He had no chance of winning, and only siphoned votes away from Donald Trump. In 2020, he and other Never Trumpers worked to defeat President Trump and get Joe Biden elected.

Is Mr. McMullin happy with the results of the 2020 election? Last month, 172,000 individuals were apprehended at our border, the highest in two decades. Thousands of immigrant minors are being detained in overcrowded, wretched conditions. President Biden is moving to pack the Supreme Court. The Democrat-controlled House and Senate passed and President Biden signed the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, that contained well over a trillion dollars of pork projects for Democrat friends and donors. China and Russia appear to be on the verge of war with their neighbors. And, President Biden has only been in office for three months.

How is America better off because of Mr. McMullin’s efforts and those of his fellow Never Trumpers?
