SOUTH JORDAN — One of Utah’s most successful high school football coaches this century is returning to Bingham High.

Bingham announced that Dave Peck is returning as head football coach for the 2020 season, replacing John Lambourne — who replaced him when he stepped away after the 2014 season.

Peck was previously the head coach at Bingham from 2000 to 2014, guiding the Miners to a 157-36 record, 10 region championships and five state championships (2006, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014).

Peck spent the past two years as North Sanpete’s defensive coordinator, helping his nephew, head coach Rhett Bird. Peck’s specialty through the years has always been defense, and in his two years calling the defense at North Sanpete his teams allowed only 13.5 points per game and reached the championship in 2018 and the semifinals in 2019.

Peck interviewed for the vacant head coaching job at Bingham last week, and principal Rodney Shaw made it official on Twitter Friday.

Peck takes over a Bingham team that finished with an 8-3 overall record and in a three-way tie for the Region 3 title with East and Herriman.

Bingham lost to East in the 6A quarterfinals.
