High school girls basketball: RPI rankings Friday update — Herriman, Valley take over top spots

Here’s an update of the girls basketball RPI rankings after Friday’s games

James has been covering high school sports in Utah for the Deseret News for three decades.

Here’s a look at the daily girls basketball RPI change after Friday’s results. The Deseret News will update these rankings and indicate the RPI movement up and down every Wednesday and Saturday throughout region play.

The rankings are pulled from the UHSAA website and are dependent on coaches posting the scores on MaxPreps in a timely manner. Not all Friday scores had been posted at time of update.

Valley overtook the top spot in 1A after beating Piute on Friday. Herriman overtook Fremont for the top spot the day earlier after beating Riverton. Fremont is still undefeated and regarded as the favorite in 6A, but Herriman is benefitting in the RPI rankings from a stronger opponents winning percentage.

Murray made the biggest jump on Friday as it moved up three spots from No. 14 to No. 11 in 5A.
