It’s almost time for the Alamo Bowl.
As BYU prepares to face Colorado Saturday in one of this month’s most intriguing postseason matchups, a number of Cougar players find themselves on the brink of making history.
Here are some numbers to keep an eye on during the game.

- With 204 passing yards against the Buffaloes, Jake Retzlaff would become the 16th BYU quarterback to pass for 3,000 yards in a single season, joining Jaren Hall, Zach Wilson and Tanner Mangum as the only such QBs to do so since 2010.
- Will Ferrin has been the definition of “clutch” at kicker for the Cougars. One made field goal Saturday would mark his 22nd of the year, giving him sole possession of first place for single season makes at BYU.
- Chase Roberts is 157 yards away from becoming the first Cougar receiver to cross the 1,000 yard threshold since Dax Milne in 2020 — though such an achievement is somewhat unlikely, considering Roberts’ best day for receiving yards is 131. However, with 16 yards against Colorado, he would pass Jonny Harline and enter the top-20 leaderboard in program history.
- The most potent return man Provo has seen in years, Keelan Marion, needs 93 all-purpose (combined rushing, receiving and kick return) yards to reach 1,000 for the season. Marion could become the BYU’s 10th leading returner all-time with 81 return yards against the Buffaloes.
- Jack Kelly has made a splash in his first season with the Cougars, and with one more sack — his sixth of 2024 — he would have the most in a season for any BYU player since Corbin Kaufusi in 2018.
- If the Cougars can pick off Shedeur Sanders twice, they’d take the national lead for most passes intercepted on the season. Jakob Robinson and Tanner Wall are tied for a BYU-best three interceptions each, so whoever can snatch a pick would be the sole team leader for 2024.
- A victory over Colorado would mark the Cougars’ 13th 11-win campaign in program history and their sixth in the post-LaVell Edwards era. Additionally, reaching 11 wins would almost certainly result in BYU’s 20th time being ranked in the end of season AP poll for the third such occurrence under Kalani Sitake.
