BYU just scheduled arguably its most interesting nonconference opponent of the upcoming campaign.

The Cougars will face instate rival Utah State at the Marriott Center on Dec. 9, the program announced Tuesday.

Additionally, BYU will play the Aggies at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City at some point during the 2027-28 season. Allotted tickets for that game will be split evenly between each school, according to Utah State.

While the Cougars have 146 lifetime wins over Utah State, their most against any opponent, the two teams have not met on the hardwood since 2021, when Alex Barcello led Mark Pope’s squad to an 82-71 victory.

BYU is currently riding a 10-game win streak against the Aggies dating back to 2013. The Cougars have not played in Logan since 2020.

Utah State, entering its first year under new head coach Ben Jacobson, has reached six of the past seven NCAA Tournaments, winning first-round games in 2024 and 2026.

After winning both the Mountain West regular season and tournament championships this past season, the Aggies are now moving to the new Pac-12 Conference with Gonzaga, San Diego State, Boise State and other familiar programs.

Utah State joins an intriguing nonconference slate of opponents for the Cougars. BYU is reportedly opening the season against Ohio State at the Delta Center and will also travel to Palm Springs, California, to play San Diego State in December. Other reports have indicated the Cougars will host Queens and Montana State in 2026.

Other than the matchup with Utah State, BYU’s current confirmed nonconference action will take place at the Maui Invitational during the week of Thanksgiving, where the Cougars will play three games against a field including Clemson, Providence, VCU, Washington and more.
