Beginning in 2027, the University of Utah will be rocking the three stripes.
Utah and Adidas announced that the Germany-based brand will be providing the Utes with their athletic gear starting in the 2027-28 athletic season.
The deal is for seven years, starting on July 1, 2027.
“The University of Utah strives for excellence in all that we do, and we are fortunate to have a world-class partner like adidas who also believes in the pursuit of excellence,” Utah athletic director Mark Harlan said in a statement.
“Adidas has an innovative spirit, a keen understanding of the power of sports and of the needs of athletes, and in this new era of intercollegiate athletics, we couldn’t ask for a better partner. I am grateful to the adidas team for their commitment to serving our Utah student-athletes and for creating unique licensed apparel that will energize our fans and supporters.”
Utah has been with Under Armour since 2008 for football and athletic department-wide since the 2011-12 season. The school signed a a 10-year extension that was worth $65 million to the university in 2016.
At the beginning of June, however, news broke that Utah and Under Armour would be parting ways at the end of the contract, which expires after the 2026-27 season.
Shortly after, Utah’s deal with Adidas was signed.
“The University of Utah has established a premier athletic program that commands national respect and shares adidas’ commitment to elevating student-athlete performance and fan experiences,” said Adidas North American president John Miller in a statement. “We are proud to partner with the Utes and are excited about what we can accomplish together in the years to come.”
As part of the agreement, Adidas says that “all Utah student-athletes will be eligible to participate in Adidas’ wide-ranging NIL Ambassador Network, which gives all student-athletes at adidas-partnered Division I schools the chance to benefit from their Name, Image and Likeness.”
While this will be the first time the Utes’ football program will wear the three stripes — Utah was a longtime Nike partner before the Under Armour deal began in 2008 — 2027 won’t be the first time an Adidas logo is on a Utah uniform.
The Utah men’s basketball team signed a deal with Adidas in 2007, wearing the brand for four years until the school-wide deal with Under Armour went into effect in 2011.
Adidas currently sponsors 15 schools, including the Big 12’s Arizona State, Kansas and Texas Tech.
Adidas recently took over as Penn State’s apparel partner and also sponsors reigning college football national champion Indiana.
