Watch: 5 things BYU’s Kalani Sitake said at Big 12 media days, from CFP expansion to the Utah rivalry
The Cougars face heightened expectations going into the 2026 season
FRISCO, Texas — BYU is facing higher expectations heading into the 2026 season, which led to a heightened spotlight at Big 12 football media days Tuesday.
Cougars head coach Kalani Sitake, as he’s prone to do, coolly handled that pressure with aplomb and a touch of humor at The Star, the practice facility of the Dallas Cowboys, while acknowledging a “humble, hungry” approach is going to guide his team in 2026.
In addition to talking about the expectations facing his team, Sitake also discussed star players Bear Bachmeier and LJ Martin, a potential expansion of the College Football Playoff to 24 teams and a new era in the Utah rivalry with Morgan Scalley as coach during his podium session.
