Former BYU Cougars were all over the NFL’s preseason opener Thursday night.
As the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers met in the annual Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio, Kedon Slovis, Miles Davis and Brady Christensen each played crucial roles in what became a 33-30 Panthers victory.
Slovis played the majority of the second half at quarterback for the Cardinals, completing 9 of 10 passes for 106 yards, a touchdown and a game-high passer rating of 144.2.
With just under two minutes left to play, Slovis tossed a go-ahead, 1-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Green, only for Carolina to immediately respond with a game-winning scoring drive of its own.
Davis, who spent five seasons at BYU before breaking out for nearly 1,000 total yards at Utah State last season, finished as the Panthers’ leading rusher on the night with four carries for 53 yards. He also caught three passes for eight yards.
Christensen started at center for Carolina, helping the Panthers run for 141 yards at 6.4 yards per carry as a team.
Additionally, Utah native and former Brighton High star Simi Fehoko caught a 5-yard touchdown pass for the Cardinals.
