The Utah Jazz are getting a new home away from home, and it’s progressing nicely.
Ryan Smith, who owns the team, posted a construction update on X Tuesday morning of the Jazz practice facility under construction at The Shops at South Town mall in Sandy. The facility will be attached to the Mammoth Ice Center, where Smith’s NHL team practices and trains.
SEG envisions the facility building a bridge between the Jazz and the Mammoth, fostering collaboration and a sense of community.
“This building is going to represent a shared vision between our two groups,” said Jazz coach Will Hardy at the facility’s unveiling in October 2025. “We’re both trying to meet elite standards every single day, and being side by side is the kind of competitive environment that’s going to push everybody to be better and is going to elevate both groups.”
Included in the construction is a 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art sports medicine facility, which will serve not only the two professional teams, but also recreational athletes in the community.
“Having a single ownership group and a single healthcare provider across both teams will allow us to innovate, share best practices, and build toward the integrated care that is the future and continue to invest in proactive care, health, and longevity for our teams and the community,” Smith said in a press release after SEG announced the sports medicine facility.
Delta Center renovation update
Moments after posting the Jazz facility update, Smith also shared a video of the construction progress at the Delta Center, where both the Jazz and the Mammoth play their home games.
It’s currently undergoing the second stage of a projected three-summer overhaul to retrofit the building for NHL hockey. A hockey rink is much bigger than a basketball court, so work was needed to provide full-view seating in many areas around the stands.
The video shows workers installing seats in the upper bowl. The building will be back in operation as soon as Sept. 26, when the Mammoth host the Colorado Avalanche in a preseason game.
