The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention just added six new symptoms to a growing list of symptoms for COVID-19.

The six new symptoms are:

  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Headache.
  • Sore throat.
  • Loss of taste or smell.

The symptoms could appear between two and 14 days of exposure to the virus, according to the CDC.

NPR said: “The expanded symptoms list could prove important because with a limited number of test kits available, typically those seeking a test must first show symptoms.”

A history of symptoms

  • Several of these symptoms have made headlines for the last few weeks, if not months. Fever, cough and shortness of breath have been identified as some of the more common symptoms. But these aforementioned ones were only just added to the CDC’s list.
  • For example, Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert suggested loss of smell and taste could be symptoms of the coronavirus in March, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
  • Other symptoms have popped up here and there. For example, researchers only discovered a new symptom called “COVID-19 toes” in the beginning of March, as I reported for the Deseret News.
  • New research into the virus pops up nearly every day. For example, Anne Wallace wrote about how coronavirus can linger in your eyes longer than in your mouth or nose.
