- President Trump shares inspiring stories about military moms and invites them onto stage
- Melania's speech is interrupted by laughter when praising her husband's empathy
- Message regarding many of the Trump administration's current endeavors
As Mother’s Day approaches this Sunday, President Donald Trump, alongside his wife Melania, praised military moms at a White House event on Wednesday.
“There’s nothing more important than military moms,” said Trump. “Without you, I don’t think I’d be in this house. I don’t think this house would have ever been built.”
First Lady Melania Trump began the event with a short speech.
“Most know my husband as the strong commander in chief, but his empathy transcends the role,” Melania said, before being interrupted by laughter. Trump grinned and pointed at someone in the audience.
Melania turned to smile at Trump, then finished her sentence: “Of a caring leader who constantly remembers each and every American soldier is someone’s child.”
“At the very heart of America’s strength lies the boundless love and quiet power of mothers,” continued the first lady.
President Trump also reviewed some of his administration’s current endeavors.
Melania praises the deep connection mothers have with their children
The First Lady spoke of her love and respect for “military moms.”
“Words cannot comfort the all-consuming grief that family members, and mothers in particular, experience,” she said, “The loss is overwhelming.”
The formation of a child in a woman’s body, said Melania, “creates a fascinating bond between mother and child.”
“Put frankly, these emotions are understood only by women,” she continued. “Only a mother can carry this type of powerful connection ... which is also too profound for words.”
When President Trump began his speech, he praised his wife as a “an incredible mom.”
“She has a little boy,” said Trump. “She has a little boy who is quite tall,” referring to their 20-year-old son Barron, who stands at 6′9″.
Trump shares stories of ‘military moms’ and praises their faith
Trump praised mothers in the military and the mothers and wives of service members.
“This week as we prepare to celebrate Mother’s Day, we take this opportunity to say thank you very much for the incredible job” said the president. “You do it with love.”
The president also shared the stories of three mothers and invited each, unexpectedly, onto the stage to share a few words.
One mother Trump referenced was Melody Wolfe, whose son Andrew was shot while serving in Washington D.C. last November as a member of West Virginia’s National Guard.
Despite doctors being uncertain if Andrew would live, Melody was the one person who believed he would make it, Trump said.
When invited onto the stage, Melody said, “We have a strong faith in God, and God is what brought our son through this.”
Trump then quoted Isaiah 41:10, which says, “Do not fear, I am with you.”
Message about the strength of America
Another story Trump shared featured Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Colasso, a mother currently serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Trump, reading her credentials as a Reaper Drone Pilot, commented, “Woah, that’s pretty good.” The audience laughed.
The president, quoting Colasso, said, “Our military is strong ... and as a nation we are really respected again.”
Joining Trump on the stage, Colasso said, “I am proud to be an American. I am proud to serve our nation ... Thank you for all of the moms out here ... and happy Mother’s day.”
The president gives update on Iran, the White House ballroom
Throughout the event, Trump praised military efforts in Iran and the National Guard members currently deployed in U.S. cities.
“We’re in a skirmish and we’re doing unbelievably well,” he said in reference to Iran. “We’re dealing with people who very much want to make a deal.”
Trump thanked many members of his administration, took time to praise the first lady’s documentary, “Melania,” and praised the current White House ballroom renovations.
The president concluded his remarks by returning to his praise of mothers.
“No one should ever doubt the resolve of America’s military moms,” he said. “Our nation has been strengthened by the love and devotion and commitment of incredible women.”
