TAYLORSVILLE — Unified police said Monday they found the missing vehicle of a 17-year-old girl who died of a gunshot wound at a weekend party.
However, investigators did not release details about how or where the car was found as they continued efforts to determine whether the shooting was the result of a self-inflicted wound or was caused by another person.
Detectives were hoping an autopsy scheduled for Monday would give them more information about the case.
Kaylissa O’Leary, a senior at Copper Hills High School, died of a gunshot wound while attending a party in a home at 3142 W. Havea Circle (5475 South) on Saturday night where teenagers were reportedly playing with a gun, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.
The initial caller to 911 reported the injury as self-inflicted, she said. But by Sunday afternoon, police were calling the shooting “suspicious.”
That was due in part to the fact that most of those who attended the party fled the scene, and Kaylissa’s blue 2010 Honda Civic, which she drove the house, was not there. Unified police announced Monday that the car had been found, but offered no other details.
Gray did not know Monday if a weapon had been recovered.
