SALT LAKE CITY — Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg will be back in Utah Thursday morning for a second campaign appearance in advance of the state’s Super Tuesday primary on March 3.
“I think it just shows his commitment to Utah voters. To be returning before Super Tuesday is a huge deal,” said Catherine Sant Marr, spokeswoman for Bloomberg’s campaign in Utah. “We’re hoping he’s going to be fresh off the debate stage.
Details of the Salt Lake City event have not yet been finalized, Sant Marr said, adding that Utahns who want to attend can sign up at events.mikebloomberg.com/event/237481/.
Bloomberg was in Salt Lake City on Jan. 18 for a rally at Impact Hub, a downtown coworking space, where he told a crowd of several hundred supporters that he is the “un-Trump” in the campaign and knows “how to unite people.”
He is hoping to qualify for Wednesday’s Democratic primary presidential debate in Las Vegas. Sant Marr said Bloomberg “wants to go and wants to debate,” in what would be his first time joining other Democratic presidential contenders on the debate stage.
Bloomberg is not campaigning in the early voting states — Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. Instead, he is focused on the more than a dozen Super Tuesday states like Utah. He’s spent more than $2 million on TV commercials and other advertising in Utah since announcing his White House bid last November.
Bloomberg’s second visit to the Beehive State will follow a Monday evening town hall meeting by another Democratic presidential candidate, Pete Buttigieg. Other candidates made stops in Utah last year, including former Vice President Joe Biden, who held a fundraiser in Park City, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who held a Salt Lake City rally.
