WEST HAVEN, Weber County — A man who allegedly shot another man by accident during a confrontation at a West Haven motel has been arrested.

Anthony Ray Ybarra-Eddington, 25, was booked into the Weber County Jail on Thursday and formally charged Friday in 2nd District Court with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and threatening to use a weapon during a fight, a class A misdemeanor.

On Wednesday, a man who suffered a gunshot wound told police he was at a motel near 1200 West and 2100 South when two men entered his room asking where their undisclosed property was, according to a police affidavit.

The victim got into a fight with the men and claimed he was “hit in the face two times and then the gun went off, hitting him under his left arm,” the affidavit states.

The two intruders ran off and a friend took the victim to the hospital, according to the affidavit.

Police reviewed hotel surveillance video and identified Ybarra-Eddington as one of the suspects, whom the Ogden Metro Gang Unit has dealt with before, the affidavit states.

On Thursday, police located Ybarra-Eddington, who said he confronted the victim “about threats and some stolen property. Ybarra-Eddington said he had a firearm but claimed the shooting was accidental,” according to the affidavit.
