Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Stevens looks for speeders during a multiday enforcement effort in an I-15 construction zone in Davis County on Wednesday. Construction workers, Utah Department of Transportation employees and troopers have experienced numerous close calls while working in the area. On July 21, a motorist suspected of drunken driving was unable to slow down after veering into the construction zone near 650 North in Clearfield. Witnesses said the driver was at one point traveling between 90 and 100 mph. Three construction workers were hospitalized after being hit by the vehicle or debris from the vehicle impacting nearby equipment. Fortunately, no one suffered life-threatening injuries.
