MYTON, Duchesne County — An eastern Utah man accused of shooting and killing his friend during a drunken argument is facing a first-degree murder charge.

Keith Nelson Broadwater, 46, was also charged Friday in Duchesne County’s 8th District Court with carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence, a class B misdemeanor.

Broadwater was arrested Thursday after sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence at 120 E. 100 North in Myton just before 1 a.m. on a report of a “gunshot incident,” according to a police affidavit.

When officers arrived, they learned that Broadwater had gotten into an argument with another man that “escalated to Keith shooting” the victim, the affidavit states. “Keith contacted central dispatch shortly after the incident and stated he shot his friend.”

Deputies were told that Broadwater “had been drinking all day,” according to the affidavit.
