A Millard County company has been hired to conduct an environmental assessment on Hill Air Force Base's plans to conduct additional low-level, night flights, officials said.
Sunrise Engineering, Fillmore, will gather the information primarily from residents in the Layton, Riverdale and south Weber areas adjacent to the northern Utah base.Hill's F-16 Fighting Falcons jet fighters are being fitted with new equipment, the Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night System, which will allow pilots to participate in more low-level, night training.
Sunrise Engineering "will determine the environmental impact of the new system on the community and recommend whether an environmental impact statement or a finding of no significant impact is appropriate," said Barry.
