He became the league's career scoring leader in October and added another mark Wednesday night, matching the record of 17 straight games with an assist as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Hartford Whalers 5-2.

Gretzky and Paul Coffey each went 17 games with an assist while teammates at Edmonton.

"I don't recall that one, but I do remember Paul's," said Gretzky, who got his league-leading 52nd assist and scored his 14th goal.

Gretzky has 35 assists and five goals during his 17-game streak. More recently, the Kings are 9-3-1 since Nov. 11.
