A 14-year-old boy was in custody after he pulled a gun in eastern Idaho's Rigby Junior High School, threatened a teacher and students and took a 14-year-old girl hostage.

No one was injured and no shots were fired. The boy was charged with one count of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault on a police officer. Other charges were pending, officials said.

The incident began at 11 a.m. when a student at the school drew a 22-caliber revolver he apparently had brought from home and threatened his teacher and two other students, officers said.

The boy then took the girl hostage at gunpoint. Rigby Police officers and Jefferson County deputy sheriffs responded immediately.

For their safety, students were locked in their classrooms by their teachers until officers located the boy and the hostage about one hour later at a nearby church.

The area was sealed off and four officers entered the church and rescued the hostage safely. Officers said they had to physically subdue the boy to get the gun from him.

Officials were asking the court's opinion as to whether the boy can be charged as an adult. No motive was evident and the incident remained under investigation.
