Nate Bryan of Vail, Colo., edged Jeremy Nobis of Park City, Utah, in a men's giant slalom to win Friday's final North American Trophy Series race of the 1990 season at Whistler, British Columbia.
But the runner-up finish gave Nobis the Nor-Am 1990 men's giant slalom title by a single point over Bryan, 70-69.Bryan's blazing second run down Blackcomb Mountain gave him the race victory by .22 of a second over Nobis, who led after the first run by .6 of a second. Bryan finished in a combined time to 2 minutes, 8.1 seconds. Nobis was timed in 2:08.32.
In the final women's slalom, Heidi Bowes of Steamboat Springs, Colo., took third. But it was enough to give her both the Nor-Am women's slalom and overall title. Bowes also won the women's Nor-Am giant slalom crown Thursday.
Swiss skier Katrin Neuenschwander won the women's slalom in 1:41.15, nearly a one-second margin over Canadian Annie Laurendeau (1:42.11), with Bowes third in 1:42.60.
The Nor-Am titles were the first-ever for Bowes, Moe and Nobis.

Martin Rufener, head women's slalom and giant slalom coach for the U.S. Ski Team during the past four years, retired Friday to pursue a career as a commercial helicopter pilot in Canada.
Rufener, a native of Blumenstein, Switzerland, was considered responsible for the accomplishments of such U.S. Ski Team racers as Tamara McKinney, Diann Roffe and Kristi Terzian.
In her first year on the World Cup circuit, Terzian scored points in 17 races, the most ever by an American woman.
