The new Utah Jazz arena finally has a name.
Jazz owner Larry H. Miller announced Friday that Delta Air Lines has been granted name rights for the arena. The $66 million building will be named the Delta Center."We have been involved in discussions for several months with our friends at Delta Air Lines," Miller said. "Delta is no stranger to making commitments to Salt Lake, and we value their support of our organization, our downtown area and the Intermountain area."
Jazz and Delta officials refused to release specific terms of the deal, but Miller noted that the new pact is a "long-term sponsorship agreement." Delta was one of four firms negotiating with the Jazz for arena sponsorship.
The Delta Center will be completed on Oct. 4 with public open house festivities set for the week of Oct. 7-12. Capacity for the new arena will be close to 20,500, depending on events. The center will feature state-of-the-art video scoreboards, luxury suites and sky suites and will give Salt Lake City a world-class sports and entertainment facility.
The facility is projected to hold events 210-220 nights per year.
"Delta is proud to provide the title sponsorship for this premier arena that is sure to become the entertainment and sports hub of the Salt Lake community," said Whit Hawkins, Delta's president and chief operating officer.
"Our commitment to the center is further evidence of Delta's support of the Salt Lake area through both tourism and economic development."
Miller financed the arena through a $66 million loan from the Los Angeles agency of Sumitomo Trust and Banking Co. Ltd.
